Leomie Anderson
Leomie Anderson is more than a supermodel. Founder of female-empowerment platform, LAPP, she is on a mission to make the world a better place for women everywhere. Get to know one of our favorite Londoners in our exclusive Q&A.
We are obsessed with LAPP—tell us about the concept and how it came to be?
Thank you! One day a follower of mine messaged me on Twitter asking me to write a piece on consent and the pressures young girls are under to send explicit images of themselves on my old personal blog. The piece went viral and I was able to speak on the news to a huge audience and speak to these young girls; I realized how much my voice could help people. I wanted to allow other women to be heard with my following so started working on the concept of LAPP, a platform for women only to speak and be heard.
What do you hope to achieve with LAPP?
I hope to create a community where women from all walks of life can have their voices heard and inspire others. You don't have to be a professional writer, just a woman with something to say. If any women reading this are keen to be published they should email us in writefor@lappthebrand.com!
What is your favorite article that’s been published on LAPP?
I have so many favourites and have learned so much from all the women who have been published on the blog. We just had a post by a girl named Jessamy about the importance of alone time which I loved because I myself have been moving at 100 miles per hour trying to please everyone and push myself. It was nice to read something that reminded me it's okay to have time to myself.
Tell us about the LAPP collab with Nike—what was it like working with such a major brand?
It was such a great experience working with them as they allowed to bring my vision to life and bring 100% of LAPPs aesthetic and originality and combining it with the Nike Beautiful x Powerful Cortez for the lookbook. We also held the very first LAPP The Brand event at the Nike store on Kings Road which was a complete success, I loved bringing together all the people who have supported and contributed to LAPP to discuss how to be happy and be yourself; was a great experience.
You’ve been outspoken about the way women in the modeling industry are treated? What do you think needs to change? Have you seen any progress in the last few years?
I think we need to keep speaking up and having conversations about diversity and representation in order to truly see change. Although there has been progress in some aspects, we still have a long way to go before we can say things have really progressed.
What’s the craziest thing you can tell us about what happens backstage at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show?
I think the craziest thing was the impromptu singing session with Lady Gaga! She is so beautiful and after the show she gave every model a rose- too sweet!
What are your favorite spots in London?
My bed haha. Honestly, I love Portabello Road, my favourite vintage store there is One of a Kind Vintage, you have to go there if you're ever in London!
A little birdie told us you admire our co-founder Khloé—why do you think she’s a positive role model for women?
She's always been a fave of mine because she's just so funny and real, she's not trying to hide away, no matter how hard it is being in the public eye. I admire women who manage to smile in the face of all these people wanting a piece of you, she does it with such grace! I think Khloé inspires other women to know there is life and happiness after hard times in your life which I have a lot of respect for.
You have such sick style—what are some of your favorite up and coming brands?
I love Ader Error, a Korean brand I discovered about 4 years ago, before they even had international shipping or a site in English. I kept emailing them saying as soon as they shipped internationally they have to let me know and a few months later they did! Been supporting them ever since and love the fact their collections are gender neutral, my boyfriend and I always share their pieces!
You recently moved to New York – what has surprised you about the city?
Nothing in NY surprises me anymore lmao. I've experienced everything from a regular-looking person screaming in my face and walking off to a crazy-looking person smoking on my carriage of the subway singing rap songs. I'm surprised when I don't see a crazy person on my day-to-day travels.
What music are you currently listening to?
My favourite artists are Lancey Foux and Bree Runway, the most fire artists coming from the UK right now!
What does the idea of a ‘Good American’ girl mean to you?
A Good American girl is one who is ambitious, full of personality but not too serious. A GA girl knows how to get her way and always looks fly doing it! Don't mean to toot my own horn but 💁🏾
