Get Khadijah and Malika’s Modern Glam
She’s the go-to makeup maven for Good Squad girls like Khadija and Malika and Nazanin Mandi calls our very own Emma Grede a top client and has been spotted working behind-the-scenes on some our most epic campaigns—Christiana Cassell is easily family here at GOOD AMERICAN.
The beauty guru got her start at the early age of sixteen with cosmetology school and then attended LIM College in NYC where she majored Fashion Merchandising. The two worlds would collide as she pursued her passion “for making people feel and look their best by enhancing their natural beauty”—her cosmetology degree finessed her skills when it came to doing makeup and hair, while her university degree gave her a unique and well-rounded understanding of the industry in which she hoped to work in.
After graduating, it was off to Los Angeles for ChrisC. “I knew it was my calling to make an impactful and profound mark within the beauty industry-incorporating both hair and makeup in my everyday work,” she explains, and with the right amount of networking, hard work, and talent, she did just that. While working at MAC, ChrisC was introduced to Malika and Khadijah, who she instantly clicked both professionally and personally. “I call them my Pisces sisters,” she says of the girls.
From there, she began working with GOOD AMERICAN co-founder Emma Grede, who she “loves creating sophisticated yet refined looks” for, and musicians Chloe x Halle, who she says “are not afraid of taking risks and trying new trends.” Whoever ChrisC is working with, her approach is grounded in careful thought and consideration to the individual—the overall look her client is trying to achieve, the things that make her individuality stand out, and so forth. “I try to create looks that I know fit their personalities,” she says. “It’s also very important to incorporate their own vision because it allows them to express themselves and feel confident. Beauty starts within!”
Such was the case when she came up with one of her favorite looks, created for her favorite Pisces sisters. “Malika and Khadijah did an amazing shoot with photographer Roxy Rodriguez who wanted to capture moments of the girls that really spoke to their personalities and style,” ChrisC recalls. “I didn’t want to turn them into someone else,” she continues. “I wanted their makeup to show the similarities of being twins but speaking to their individual personalities with subtle differences in lip color, lashes, and eyeliner.”
