You’re back for Good American season 2 – tell us what it was like being a part of Good American’s very first #GOODSQUAD
I'm so excited to be back! Thank you for having me! I can't put into words how this experience has been for me so far. I'm such a fan of Khloé's that working for her is a dream in itself! And then to have it be for a brand with such a positive mission promoting diversity is more than I ever could have imagined. I'm truly honored to be a part of the Good Squad!
You are very vocal about double standards for women, internet shaming and women’s rights on social media—which we love!—what is the one message you want your followers to take away from these posts?
My pinned tweet on Twitter is "My body becomes sexual when I am turned on, not when you are." I think that's always a good place for me to start to explain that as women our bodies belong to us—we live in them, breathe in them, our souls are inside of them. Just because a man finds a woman's body sexual, that doesn't put her in a sexual frame of mind or invite sexual harassment. Also, clothes are not consent and women should not be shamed for celebrating their own sexuality when they decide to. It's such a multi-layered thing for me to summarize women's issues because there are so many things that affect women in this world, that it's hard to define in a short answer. I would encourage other women (and people in general) to not just consider women's rights as they relate to themselves, but to also support and listen to other women who might be really different from you or facing obstacles in life that you don't personally face, and to listen to, learn from and support always on the basis of compassion and that we are all human beings that have a right to exist and be heard. My advice for men would be to stop looking at women's issues from the lens of 'that girl could be my sister or mother or aunt' and start to consider that women aren't deserving of equal rights because of how we are related to men, but because we are people.
You’re the #GOODSQUAD's resident Aussie—from your perspective, what are must-visit destinations Down Under?
I am from Melbourne so, of course, I have to represent my home town and say that Melbourne is an incredible city with amazing food, arts and culture! I think if you're heading to Australia obviously Darling Harbour—the opera house and the bridge—is a must-see. Then, the beaches up north in Queensland and over in Perth are absolutely stunning! Definitely last but not least Uluru!
What is your favorite thing about living in Los Angeles?
I feel like LA is the place where dreams can come true. Even though it's a lot of hard work, it's inspiring to be in a city full of talent and it definitely pushes you to be better at what you do; it motivates you to be the best that you can be. I love the weather also!
What songs are currently playing on your stereo?
Always Beyoncé. I'm currently listening to Future's new album as I type this and I also love to listen to Bon Iver when I'm relaxing.
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
I'm not just saying this because it's you guys asking: being on the Good Squad is such a highlight for me! It's also a thrill to see myself on magazine covers and on TV when that happens. It makes being away from my family at home a little easier when I know I'm achieving things here that I couldn't have if I was still back home.
What traits do you seek in members of your #GOODSQUAD?
I think the Good Squad is about celebrating ourselves while at the same time celebrating each other. There's no room for people who put others down, and are mean. The Good Squad members are kind, unique, and confident. It's such a wonderful mix of people!
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
"It always turns out ok in the end; if it's not ok, it's not the end"
What are your 2017 goals?
This year I'm excited to travel a lot more and continue to work on everything I've been building towards here also! I've been focused and haven't had a vacation in a long time, and I'm excited to have a holiday at some point this year! I've earned it!
You work with Homelight Family Living – tell us about the work they do and how you’re involved?
I met Ricardo and the wonderful team at Homelight through my friend Jessica Burciaga. They do such incredible work here in LA! Homelight family is a special program that runs through the midnight mission, providing a full year of housing and on-site therapy to women and their children as they overcome difficult circumstances such as homelessness, human trafficking, domestic violence and addiction. They provide such an incredible support system for women, I cannot speak about them highly enough.
What does the idea of a ‘Good American girl’ mean to you?
Well, I'm an Australian girl, but a Good American girl to me is someone who is strong, brave, kind, welcoming and supportive of others. Since Good American is taking over the world you can be a good American girl no matter where you are, it's about having a good heart.
