This Charlotte, North Carolina-native has an endearing heart of gold and wants women to embrace what makes them stand out. Plus, THAT HAIR! 😍 We couldn't be more excited to welcome Mckala to the Good Squad.

If you could tell your 12-year-old self anything, what would it be?

I would tell myself, "Relax. Don't worry, because when one door closes, another one opens."

What would you like to see more of in the industry?

I would like to see more diversity. I think it's getting there, but it hasn't reached its peak yet.

How do you think it’s gotten better?

I think more so because when I was younger, I didn't see people that looked like me. I was like, “Do I need to straighten my hair ?” But now I’m like, “She has curly hair, and she has curly hair!" What makes you unique makes you beautiful and stand out.

What connection do you feel with Good American?

I just honestly love the brand. Even from seeing it online, you get the best vibes from it. It doesn't look fake. Everything looks so natural.

Tell us about when you applied to the Open Casting

When I applied, it was 2 in the morning! Last year I actually missed it because I was too late. I did it five days before the cut-off date.

And how was the callback for you?

I feel like the casting was special to me because literally no one looks the same, and when you go, every girl is more than a pretty face.

So when I got the call back, I got it through email and honestly thought it was a scam. When I got it, I looked up everyone's Instagram who was attached to the email to see if they really work for Good American and then I was like, “Okay this is really happening.”

I was mind blown. I literally couldn't even read it out loud. I just emailed it to my mom and I was like, “Look, read this!” I was super shocked. She said, “My daughter’s gonna model for Good America.” I was like, “It’s Good American, mom.”

This is your first time in LA, what do you think about it?

I was honestly comparing it to what I see on social media, and I feel like even when you're downtown it doesn't look as big as I thought it did. But even compared to where I’m from, LA is freaking humongous. So I was shocked, and the traffic’s crazy. I thought the traffic was bad where I live.

Has the campaign shoot been everything you’d hoped?

I was super nervous when I first got here, but just walking in, everyone's so sweet and positive. I was so easy to just relax and get to know everyone.

And you got to meet with Khloé!

Oh my gosh, I was speechless. She's so pretty. She's just as sweet in person as she is on camera.
